What’s in store for MacWorld?

(Photo: The Archetype by Tom Bihn)Man, I can’t tell you how excited I am for MacWorld. There’s been rumors of ultra slim MacBooks, touch screen-based Mac portables, new cinema displays, and updates to current products. With theĀ Mac Pro’s recent update just days before MacWorld, we have to know Apple is setting aside the minor updates for some big stuff this year.So what are your thoughts? What do you want Apple to send out?

    Lets see here….

Updated iMacs – new processors and stuff (and possibly a little cheaper)
    New larger iPod Touch
    New 3G iPhone
New iPhone “nano” – which would be slightly smaller, and more affordable.

New iTunes with some new features that I would or can use and not just stuff for the iPhone. :-(

    I guess that’s it… lol

I think it’s a bit too early for new iPhones, though they do replace iPods just as frequent (like the nano). I want ultra portable, and I don’t know why! Probably for price and size.

    Um…

Stylus for iPhone and/or iPod Touch
    Updated MacBook (Pro)
    -Will feature better battery life
-Maybe more ports/jacks for other stuff, like a Memory Stick or SD Card
-CD Drive on the bottom like the MacBook Pro?
-Slimmer, and less weight? Heck yeah.
    -More storage, slightly faster processor
    -Battery checker on side
    -More RAM
    Stuff… ;p

lol, that’s quite the list for a single product. :p
I wouldn’t count on the stylus, Steve seems very pro-finger.

I think we’ll see mostly product refreshes and perhaps that ultra-portable everyone keeps speculating about but the fact that they just popped the new Mac Pro and server updates without fanfare means that anything could happen.

    I’d like to see…
A bumped up AppleTV (especially since I decided to buy one) with more formats and a larger HDD.
The iPhone firmware that will finally allow third party apps without jailbreaking.

What we’ll probably most definately see…
new iPods (bumped up sizes and possible the move to solid state disk in the classic)
speed bumps in all computer lines (including the mini)
announcement of a 3G iPhone (available about the same time as last years launch)

I don’t see them doing much to the MBP line, but maybe a redesign of the MB (new case) and I don’t think you’ll see a stylus for the iPhone, it takes a while to get used to the finger interface but when you do it can’t be replaced.

  6. Wavey replied:

But what if you get ugly big fingers sometime? Or you can’t hit a key? :p

  7. cyclingplatypus replied:

You actually get used to it very quickly, no matter how “fat” the fingers are and it has adaptive typing so if you type helro it pops up hello.

I’m not going to lie O switched from a Treo and held off switching for a while because the touch screen was the only input method, now I find it awkward to use my wife’s Treo, it is more awkward for me to use that than it is the iPhone.

I’ve got to say, pretty lack luster today.

The iPhone firmware is cool, don’t think it really needed a MW announcement though.

The Airport Extreme with HDD is great…a few months late and a bit suspicious since the disabled Time Machine backups to NAS drives before but now you can do it if you buy an AE, once again cool but not really MW material.

The Apple TV announcements were a given and pretty good, ties nicely into the movie rental (now if they’d only introduce a subscription plan that would make me want to get rid of Netflix).

And the MacBook Air is cool…but honestly I don’t see me wanting to run out and buy one…granted I’m probably one of the minority amongst Apple fans.

I’m pretty sure the Airport Extreme with HDD is considered a different product – “Time Capsule”. Honestly, it IS confusing. They keep recycling designs now. Time Capsule = Airport Extreme = Apple TV = Mac Mini.

Love the Apple TV software update. Might grab one sometime. The MBA is awesome, too, but it’s so pricey for what it is. I don’t see the value of buying one besides aesthetics.
